Second Wife!
Dear Diary,
11 p.m
(18.12.2015)
I met yet
another guy this evening. My cousin, Trisha thinks he is good looking and
smart. I often drag Trisha when it comes to such formal meetings which my
family chooses for me.
Tell me how
am I supposed to talk about myself in a given short span? Am I supposed to ogle
at him or talk? I have a problem. I can’t talk while I focus on someone’s
looks. Good or bad, doesn’t matter. I suck at multi-tasking you see.
So, I was
staring at this probable husband of mine. He wore dark grey suit and light blue
checked shirt. His shoes shined well. I am not brand conscious hence I can’t
recite those details. He seemed to wear some good brand. I postulate.
Trisha had
already built a good rapport with him. Oh his name is Aditya S. I have no idea
what that ‘S’ stands for.
I felt
Trisha pinching my arm and that’s when I realized that he was looking at me.
Almost smiling at me.
‘So, Miss
Archana, do you like this place?’ he questioned. He was the first person to ask
that. To be frank, I hated that place. It was our guest house which looked
nothing less than a haunted bungalow. But this looked sophisticated according
to my family. Hence every guy was called there.
‘Archana?’
he called out my name yet again. I blinked my eyes repeatedly and tried forming
a reply.
‘Umm Yes I said
shaking my head which meant No.’ He laughed and tapped my arm. ‘Are you
alright?’ he questioned. Seemed like he really wanted to know.
I was not at
all okay. I hated these formal meetings. It was my childhood dream to get
married to someone I loved. It was my grand escape plan from the very strict
jail like home I had lived in.
Trisha came
to my rescue and said, ‘She is just nervous.’ He nodded and had a glance at his
wrist watch. Damn it looked costly. Diamond studded. Again, I am clueless about
the brand.
‘How’s
Canada?’ I asked with my eyes piercing his. I loved the fact that he lived far
away from our place which meant, if I married him, I would be living very far
from my family. Sounds perfect I thought.
‘Seems like
you like the idea of Canada.’ He replied mock laughing at me. Idea? So he means
he also knows I have never been there and hence that excites me? No! Only the
idea of staying away excites me and not particularly abroad. I breathed out.
I smiled as
a reply and looked at Trisha. ‘She doesn’t mind any place like that.’ She spoke
again. He nodded in agreement yet looking at me.
‘What are
your hobbies?’ he questioned trying to pick up some topic for conversation.
I looked at
Trisha, but in my mind I had a long list of hobbies. I loved to sneak out at
mid night and jog. I didn’t mind the dogs chasing me initially. Later they
became my friends. I preferred animals over human beings anytime.
‘She likes
painting, cooking.’ Trisha replied.
‘Would you
mind if I talk to Archana in private? I am sure she would also like to have a
word with me? After all it’s about her future too.’ He asked very boldly. I
would have never ever gathered such courage to talk to any person for that
matter!
I smiled for the first time. The kind of a smile which reached my eyes. I wanted to talk to him.
My cell
phone buzzed while Trisha stood to leave. She stopped as the phone rang. It was
grand pa calling.
‘We must
leave.’ Announced Trisha and holding my hand, started walking out.
The watchman
was handed over the eyes to lock the guest house. Aditya was confused and
followed us.
‘When can I meet
you again?’ He asked me. Yes, he asked me! Maybe he was still interested in
knowing me.
Trisha
stepped forward but before she could speak anything he hushed her and said, ‘Let
her speak… When shall we meet again?’ he questioned looking at me.
Trisha had
already stepped into the car. I climbed in brushing my hair away from my face
and replied. ‘SOON’
The car left
with a boom!
