When the Heavens Smiled
                             By – Ritesh Arora

What happens when a well-read man attempts to pen down a novel? You will only expect Sophistication and class!
I would like to Congratulate Mr. Ritesh for his beautiful debut novel, “When the heavens smiled.’
The blurb
Opposites attract.
Sarthak is a good looking and intelligent guy, witty in every sense. He is hesitant and often tries to weigh the situations, postulates, but at the end only does what his heart demands! He has his own theories of life which are stunning.

Sarangi is vibrant, straight forward and one can easily associate a girl next door image to her! She has a pampering bubbly side. She is bubbly as well as possesses the traits of a nurturing woman. What a terrific Combo.
When things seem to be falling on track, Sarangi is diagnosed with a medical condition that leaves her with only three months to live. Sarthak is all set to evolve as a stronger person and save Sarangi against all the odds!
My views
The first four chapters of the novel are a fun filled, humorous and pleasant. One can easily connect with the characters. Sarthak’s very loving mother, The friends Raja and Ankur, who can turn any given moment into a fun rolled on and of course Sarangi.
Meanwhile there are few very funny Office incidences which one can look forward to.
Will Sarthak confess his love for Sarangi? Shouldn’t he just stop feeling so hesitant and confess? Is what I felt initially, but his theory of “Let me not act so despo” comes handy and the love progresses.
The next four chapters of the book are what make this one of my favourite novels.
Sarangi meets with a medical condition which leaves her with only three months to live. How far can love and only love pull a person in doing things which he would otherwise never think of?
When the normal happy life meets turmoil? Will sitting and cursing God be the only solution?
Sarthak believes in taking actions. Trying till the very end, pulling every string possible in order to fight the worst. He wastes no time in crying and feeling depressed. He is always on a go to get her more time to live. He has immense will power and faith in the supreme.
The book leaves us answering many questions.
The style of narration is lucid, witty and very sincere. If creepy lines like Shona and Babu is not your cup of tea, then definitely this is what you must go for.
Few books don’t leave you until very end. If books are meant to be read not only for entertainment but also for knowledge, then this is a right choice.

Quotes that touched my heart and I am sure you too will like are,
“A mother is after all a mother who understands what a child does not say.”

“Honesty is mostly the best policy, unless you’re posing a Facebook profile picture.”

“Love is probably the most beautiful thing you can have, and the most painful thing you can lose.”

“The unfortunate part of this mysterious script of destiny is that you can only feel it as it happens to you, but you can’t see the next page.”

“Love speaks when lips don’t say much.”

“A true test of a man’s character is not how he lives in good times, but how he fares in bad times.”

“I am the taste of water, the light of the sun and the moon; I am the sound in the ether and ability in man. I am the universal father, mother and the granter of all, grandfather, and object of knowledge; purifier, the holy syllable ‘Om’ and three fold sacred love.”

“ The secret of happiness doesn’t lie in holding or piling on things, but in letting them go, by giving them to those who are needy.”

“Is it always curtains when physician says a No and the answer is no, unless God says no, it is never no."

Things which could have been better.

A couple of characters could have been included till the end. Like, Sarthak's mother was somewhere left behind.

The ending could have been slow paced as the reader would have loved to get more details about it.
